NASA Astronauts Launch from America in Historic Test Flight of SpaceX Crew Dragon

For the first time in history, NASA astronauts have launched from American soil in a commercially built and operated American crew spacecraft on its way to the International Space Station. The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft carrying NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley lifted off at 3:22 p.m. EDT Saturday (May 30) on the company’s Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

New CPSC Report Finds Steady Rise in Fatal Child Drownings

A new report released on June 3 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) highlights the need for continued vigilance in combating child drownings, particularly as many families prepare to spend more time at home this summer to curb the spread of COVID-19. Child drownings remain the leading cause of unintentional death among children ages 1 to 4 years old.

Survey: The State of Summer Vacations for Employees

Summer is around the corner, but many professionals plan to keep their nose to the grindstone, new research from global staffing firm Robert Half shows. According to a survey of more than 1,000 U.S. office workers:

• 28% anticipate taking fewer days off in the summer months compared to last year, because of COVID-19; 16% are taking more time off.
• 37% will save their vacation time for later in the year, hopefully to travel.
• 14% won’t be logging off because they have too much work to do.
• 22% would like to take a vacation but are tightening their belts due to the pandemic.
• 20% will take days off for self-care and mental health.

National PTA and U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Team Up to Close Digital Divide for Students and Educators

National PTA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation have teamed up to launch Every Student Connected, an initiative to raise awareness of the need to close the connectivity gap during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the effort, National PTA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation are working to create a sense of urgency around the inability of over 12 million students to participate in distance learning.
