United Van Lines’ National Migration Study Reveals Where and Why Americans Moved in 2020
United Van Lines today (Jan. 4) released the company’s 44th Annual National Migration Study, revealing in 2020, Americans continued to move westbound and southbound – and the COVID-19 pandemic factored into and accelerated many of those decisions to move. According to the study, which tracks the company’s exclusive data for customers’ 2020 state-to-state migration patterns, Idaho was the state with the highest percentage of inbound migration (70%) among states experiencing more than 250 moves with United Van Lines for the second consecutive year. Topping the list of outbound locations was New Jersey (70% outbound), which has held the spot for the past three years.

More Than Half of US Companies Are Under Financial or Operational Stress and 14% Are in Distress as Pandemic’s Economic Impact Deepens
More than seven months into the novel coronavirus pandemic, a disturbingly large number of U.S. companies are at risk, according to new research from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) confirming that economic distress is deeply entrenched and shows no sign of letting up. More than 60% of US companies analyzed are under financial or operational stress as of the end of the second quarter of 2020, a 49% increase from the end of the second quarter of 2019, according to BCG analysis. And 14% are in distress—either challenged to meet their financial obligations or under operational pressure that requires significant restructuring. That represents a 43% increase over the previous year.

In March 2019, Las Vegas Sands Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon G. Adelson announced he was receiving treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Adelson recently resumed his cancer treatment and will be taking a leave of absence as of today (Jan. 7) from his role as chairman and chief executive officer of both Las Vegas Sands and Sands China Ltd. The companies’ boards have named Robert G. Goldstein, currently Las Vegas Sands’ president and chief operating officer, as acting chairman and acting chief executive officer of both organizations while Adelson is on medical leave.
