Blog Profiles: Health and Wellness Blogs We Love

The most recent snowfall in Washington, DC has thrown into sharp relief how badly spring needs to make its appearance here.

It’s not so much because it’s time; technically, it is spring. But there are thousands of DC area residents – including myself – who are ready to trade their indoor workouts for something sunnier and warmer.

With this in mind, here are some blogs to help prepare for the soon-to-be outdoor chapter of health and wellness.

MindBodyGreen

MindBodyGreen wants to help revitalize the way people eat, move, and live. It was founded by Jason Wachob, Carver Anderson, and Tim Glenister.

“MindBodyGreen is a conversation about health, and we hope to give you the tools and information to make your life better and to inspire you to keep doing the awesome things that you’re already doing,” the blog says.

This is a really attractive site. It includes beautiful art, including slideshows like 10 Foods a Naturopathic Doctor Always Buys and 10 Detoxifying Foods for Spring.

I also find the content on MindBodyGreen incredibly engaging. Here’s another post I really identified with: 6 Tips to Spring Clean Your Relationships.

The Atlantic – James Hamblin

Hamblin is a physician and senior editor of The Atlantic. He covers preventative medicine and health in popular culture.

His blog on The Atlantic tackles a lot of good subjects, including gluten, anxiety, and caffeine, to name a few.

I enjoyed Hamblin’s recent post, Science Compared Every Diet, and the Winner is Real Food, where he says, “Researchers asked if one diet could be crowned best in terms of health outcomes. If diet is a set of rigid principles, the answer is a decisive no. In terms of broader guidelines, it’s a decisive yes.”

Another great post is How Being Cold Burns Calories.

The Art of Unity

The Art of Unity is about the “consciousness of uniting body, mind, and spirit.”

It’s a healthy living blog managed by wellness coach and author Bill Farr, and it offers relationship-related items, meditations, and a variety of coaching and class opportunities.

A couple of posts that stood out to me include the Benefits of Herbal Tea, which includes a pretty cool video about tea and tea production, and Overcoming Negative Energy.

Girls Gone Strong

Girls Gone Strong aims to be a fitness authority for women. It’s managed by bloggers Alli, Molly, and Neghar.

“Our mission is to educate and inspire women of all ages to maximize the strength of their body, mind and character,” the blog says. “We are three women from different walks of life bound together with the goal of breaking down the barriers of exercise for women.”

I liked this blog because it tackles women’s health issues in a real and accessible way.

A couple of posts that I enjoyed include Returning To Exercise After A C-Section and Some Assembly Required: Creating Crafty Conditioning Workouts.

The Fitnessista

The Fitnessista is a lifestyle blog that tracks the adventures of Gina, a military wife, mom, and certified personal trainer.

The blog covers quick workouts, healthy food, fashion, and features.

Many of the recipes in the food section of The Fitnessista are gluten-free, with lots of vegan options and whole foods. I couldn’t pin down just one that I’d like to try; it’s safe to assume I’ll be cooking up a few of these.

A couple of notable posts include Confessions of a Personal Trainer and goals for the new year {inspiration board time}.

And now, we’ve arrived at the portion of our program that includes a stellar health and wellness blog that I covered last year on PR Newswire for Bloggers.

Zen Habits

Zen Habits is about “finding simplicity in the daily chaos of our lives.” It’s a blog powerhouse with 260,000 subscribers, and it’s written by Leo Babauta, of San Francisco.

“Zen Habits features a couple powerful articles a week on: simplicity, health & fitness, motivation and inspiration, frugality, family life, happiness, goals, getting great things done, and living in the moment,” the blog says.

P.S. Ever wonder how we come up with ideas for our blog profiles? Our handy list of industries and subjects on PR Newswire for Journalists stays top of mind. If you’re a blogger or journalist looking for wellness news, let us know. We can customize a newsfeed for you.

Christine Cube is the former media relations manager with PR Newswire and freelance writer. She’s still anxious for spring to show up. Come on, Spring. Follow her @cpcube.

It is better to err on the side of caution than to face consequences; thus, I recommend getting vaccinated against chickenpox at the appropriate period and getting the report to a physician. If you or your child are still afflicted, all you need to do is take the necessary precautions and care for them.
