Blog Profiles: Wedding Blogs, Volume 2

Blog Profile: @PRNewswire Wedding Blogs We Love II

Welcome to Blog Profiles. Each week, we select an industry or subject and a handful of sites that do a good job with promoting, contributing, and blogging about the space. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tell us why @BeyondBylines.

Traditionally, June was “the” month to get married, but by the stack of wedding invites I’ve gotten over the years I’d say June and September are now tied.

Of course, there is no bad time to get married unless there is a “shotgun” involved. I think that may have fallen out fashion, but since it’s been a few years since I planned my wedding (and by planned I mean booked tickets to Vegas) I thought I should look to wedding bloggers to see what’s trending. Plus, if you haven’t heard – the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality last week, so what better time to look at wedding blogs when love seems to be very much in the air.

1. Artfully Wed

Erika Pitera is the editor-in-chief for Artfully Wed, a wedding style blog providing inspiration and ideas for the style-conscious bride.

Artfully Wed caught my eye because one of the weddings featured took place in my hometown. The local wedding took place at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens and the pictures really capture the couple’s elegant, but also delightfully nerdy, details. Can you spot the dinosaur and the Star Trek communicator?

I think what sets them apart from other blogs that I looked at is that you can search by color and theme of weddings showcased. I’ve seen it on big bridal sites, but not on any blogs that I came across. Red is my favorite color, so I had to search the red archives. There, I found this stunning and very dramatic wedding post with a circus theme.

2. A Practical Wedding

Planning a wedding is hard. There is a lot of work that goes into the planning and everyone has an opinion. A Practical Wedding supports the less traditional, more laid back weddings. They also have real wedding stories, advice, and how-tos from those who said “I do,” with a focus on “normalizing the messy reality of wedding planning.”

Since I will be attending a barn wedding this summer, I was drawn to How to Keep Guests Cool in a Barn Wedding. I was expecting a list of advice, but found that it is a question to the community and has over 90 comments with good advice. The DIY photo booth is also very informative and full of super cute photos.

My favorite wedding is the SmogShoppe Wedding because the photos of the guests are as wonderful as those of the bride and groom. I also loved the post Eloping on a Tuesday, which made me tear up because of the simplicity.

3. On a Bicycle Built For Two

This blog came to be when the author, Tracey, was looking for inspiration for her nautical-themed wedding and found little for lesbian weddings online. Her blog is a “tribute to queer and lesbian weddings” and has a pretty decent list of vendors across the U.S.

There are so many beautiful weddings featured, but if I had to pick one it would be Kristen and Shellie.

Kristen and Shellie said their vows outside in Sedona with a breathtaking red rock landscape behind them. Jen and Carien married in Chicago in a low-key ceremony, but the looks on their faces are anything but low-key – you can really feel their love.

4. Tidewater and Tulle

Tidewater and Tulle was launched by professional wedding photographer Chelsea LaVere in 2013. The blog focuses on weddings taking place in Virginia, but anyone planning a wedding would likely find it inspiring.

The family-centered, beach-themed wedding of Tammy and Brent really captured their kids involvement as well as their love. But, my favorite featured wedding is Ashley and Heather, because of all the sweet, hand-made details. Love letters and cherry blossoms sum up their beautiful ceremony.

A fun game love tester to play with friends, especially when we’re all just hanging out with nothing to do. I love how you can enter any two names and get a random compatibility score; it always makes us laugh so much. We don’t take the results seriously, but it’s a great way to have some harmless fun!
