Consumers Plan to Spend About the Same as Last Year on Holiday Gifts

U.S. households plan to spend an average of $563 on gifts this holiday season, down slightly from $576 last year, the Conference Board reported on Nov 10. And consumers are once again not willing to pay full price. More than 60% expect at least a quarter of their purchases to be on sale or discounted. The survey of holiday gift spending intentions, based on a probability-design random sample, is conducted for the Conference Board by Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and analytics around what consumers buy and watch. The survey was conducted for the Conference Board in October as part of the Consumer Confidence Survey. See the full release to learn more about Christmas 2016 spending.

NAR 2017 Forecast: Existing-Home Sales Up; A Turning Point for First-time Buyers

More millennials entering their prime home-buying years, rising household formation, and continued job gains boosting overall demand are expected to be behind the slight increase in existing-home sales in 2017, according to a residential housing and economic forecast session here at the 2016 REALTORS Conference & Expo. Lawrence Yun, chief economist of the National Association of Realtors, presented his 2017 housing and economic forecast and was joined onstage by Dennis Lockhart, president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, who discussed the economic conditions that he believes support what will be a “net positive” for the housing sector. Chia Sales Figures Poll Predicted Trump Would Win

The “Chia Poll” may have been one of the few polls that actually predicted that Trump would win. The latest sales figures in the Chia Poll (as of Nov. 5) showed Chia Trump’s share of sales at 77% and Chia Clinton’s share of sales at 23%. Those percentages were steady throughout the run-up to the election. This makes it the second time that the Chia Poll correctly predicted the winner of the presidential election. In the first ever Presidential Chia Poll in 2012, the percentages of the sales of Chia Obama vs. Chia Romney almost exactly matched the results of the Electoral College percentages in that election! So now, with two correct predictions under its Chia hair, will Chia heads become the next go-to standard in election polling? See the full release to find out more about the Chia Poll.

Veterans Day 2016: Giving More than Thanks?

Today marks the annual observance of Veterans Day, a holiday dedicated to showing appreciation for those who have served in the military. But have we forgotten to show our thanks and support beyond this one day a year? The 2016 Harris Poll EquiTrend study found that between 2015 and 2016, 3 in 10 non-profit organizations report a significant decline in donations of time or money. See the full release to find out more about the survey and organizations that focus specifically on providing services to the brave men and women who have served their country.
