If you were wondering where the world’s smartest, busiest people get their news, look no further. Quartz conducted a survey of 1,357 executives from around the world to find out how they get news, why they share content, and their feelings toward advertising. The study found that mornings are the most popular time for executives to consume news, and that they are most likely to get news from e-mail newsletters. LinkedIn was discovered to be the most used social media platform, while Twitter is used most intentionally to get news. Long-form articles and content covering the topics of business, global affairs, and politics were found to be the most shared.
Microsoft Officially Closes Its $26.2B Acquisition of LinkedIn (TechCrunch)
LinkedIn’s acquisition by Microsoft has closed. The two companies announced plans for the deal six months ago, and received final approval from the European Commission earlier in December, making it official. TechCrunch reports that it is not yet clear what Microsoft’s plans are for the social platform, but that it will likely include upselling LinkedIn users to buy its HR and sales software. LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner states that, while they will work together in certain areas, they will remain independent in others.
Tinder’s First Podcast Is Here To Help You Navigate The World Of Online Dating (Digital Trends)
ICYMI: Tinder, the popular dating app, is now in the podcast business. The company released its “Define the Relationship” podcast, with host Jane Marie discussing the world of online dating. According to Digital Trends, the podcast will reveal all the things you ever wanted to know about online dating – like crafting an appropriate profile – and glimpses into real-life online dating experiences. The podcast is available on iTunes and SoundCloud.
You Can Now Broadcast Live Video From The Twitter App (The Verge)
It should come as no surprise that you can now broadcast live video from the Twitter app. The Facebook competitor released its update for users on iOS and Android devices, to level the playing field in social media. The Verge reports that the feature is powered by Periscope — Twitter’s live video app — but does not require users to download the app, raising questions about the app’s future. In the meantime, users can take advantage of Periscope‘s full integration into Twitter, making it easier to share interesting moments with friends, without having to switch to a different app.
