NASA, NOAA Data Show 2016 Warmest Year on Record Globally

Earth’s 2016 surface temperatures were the warmest since modern record-keeping began in 1880, according to independent analyses by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Globally averaged temperatures in 2016 were 1.78 degrees Fahrenheit (0.99 degrees Celsius) warmer than the mid-20th century mean. Toys’R’Us Inc. Reports 2016 Holiday Sales Results

Toys”R”Us Inc. on Jan. 17 reported a same-store sales decrease of 2.5% domestically and 4.9% internationally, for a consolidated 3.4% decrease for the nine-week period ended Dec. 31, 2016. “The 2016 holiday season proved to be an unusual and challenging one for most retailers.  Despite a promising start over the Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend, we experienced lower than expected sales in the toy category overall and continued softness in our baby business. Expedia.com released on Jan. 17 the results of the Airplane Etiquette Study, an examination of American conduct in mid-air. In particular, Airplane Etiquette identifies passenger behaviors that most infuriate fellow travelers. Out of all behaviors, including boozing, excessive chatting, undressing, and inattentive parenting, one earns the most fury: rear-seat kicking. The study solicited feedback from 1,005 Americans aged 18-plus. It was commissioned by Expedia and conducted by GfK, an independent global market research company. United States Marine Band Participates in 55th Presidential Inauguration

“The President’s Own” U.S. Marine Band will participate in the 58th Inauguration of the President of the U.S. on Jan. 20. This marks the Marine Band’s 55th inaugural appearance, a tradition that dates back to Thomas Jefferson in 1801. The Marine Band provides music for the swearing-in ceremony, including “Hail to the Chief,” “America, the Beautiful,” and marches by the band’s legendary 17th Director John Philip Sousa. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the 99-piece Marine Band assumes its position in the parade procession to lead the second division down Pennsylvania Avenue.
