Long-Term Warming Trend Continued in 2017: NASA, NOAA

Earth’s global surface temperatures in 2017 ranked as the second warmest since 1880, according to an analysis by NASA. Continuing the planet’s long-term warming trend, globally averaged temperatures in 2017 were 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit (0.90 degrees Celsius) warmer than the 1951 to 1980 mean, according to scientists at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) in New York. That is second only to global temperatures in 2016.

Wynn Resorts CEO Steps Down

Wynn Resorts released the following statements on Feb. 6 regarding Chairman and CEO Steve Wynn:

The Board of Directors of Wynn Resorts reluctantly announced today that it accepted the resignation of Steve Wynn as CEO and chairman of the board of directors. The board has appointed Matt Maddox, currently president of the company, as its CEO, and Boone Wayson as non-executive chairman of the board of directors, effective immediately.

‘March for Our Lives’ Rally in Washington, D.C. Said to Be Largest Ever in Capital’s History

Exceeding expectations, a huge throng of peaceful but passionate demonstrators filled the streets around the U.S. Capitol for the March for Our Lives in Washington, D.C. Addressed by teenage speakers from around the country who have been affected by gun violence, attendees rallied to demand legislative action. While Washington, D.C. authorities have yet to give an official estimate, reports published by major news organizations put the crowd size at 850,000 people, which would make it the largest demonstration in the capital’s history.

The issue has six worldwide covers, each highlighting a member of the TIME 100: Jennifer Lopez, Nicole Kidman, Roger Federer, Tarana Burke, Satya Nadella, and Tiffany Haddish.

The campaign presents an energizing Scouting experience that speaks to kids by putting them in the middle of the action.

Suicide Rates Rising Across the U.S.

Suicide rates have been rising in nearly every state, according to the latest Vital Signs report by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC). In 2016, nearly 45,000 Americans age 10 or older died by suicide. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death and is one of just three leading causes that are on the rise. Suicide is rarely caused by a single factor. Although suicide prevention efforts largely focus on identifying and providing treatment for people with mental health conditions, there are many additional opportunities for prevention.
