The Boy Scouts of America Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy to Equitably Compensate Victims While Ensuring Scouting Continues Across the Country
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) today (Feb. 18) announced that the national organization has filed for bankruptcy under chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy code to achieve two key objectives: equitably compensate victims who were harmed during their time in scouting and continue carrying out its mission for years to come. The BSA intends to use the chapter 11 process to create a Victims Compensation Trust that would provide equitable compensation to victims.

Motor Vehicle Deaths are Estimated to Have Dropped 2% in 2019
For the second consecutive year, the U.S. experienced a small decline in roadway deaths, according to preliminary estimates released today (Feb. 20) from the National Safety Council. In 2019, an estimated 38,800 people lost their lives to car crashes – a 2% decline from 2018 (39,404 deaths) and a 4% decline from 2017 (40,231 deaths). Approximately 4.4 million people were seriously injured in crashes last year – also a 2% decrease over 2018 figures.
