This freelancing workshop will be led by award-winning political journalist Torey Van Oot and experienced freelancer Cinnamon Janzer. It is broken down into two 1-hour sessions: one on the working side (how to find editors, craft successful pitches, land assignments, and carry them out) and one on the business side (negotiating contracts, managing taxes, and growing your business). “Whether young journalists are looking to make up for lost opportunities by racking up a few clips or recent grads are considering freelancing as a way to pay the bills during abysmal job searches, the viability of freelancing is on the top of mind these days.”

Nov. 20: #BlogHer Planet

Bloggers can join this free virtual event for “inspirational discussions and educational takeaways to better yourself, your brand, and the world we share.” The agenda will cover eco-conscious business models, like creating eco-friendly products and lowering a business’s carbon footprint, sustainable eating, and how to make simple changes that have a big impact on the environment.

Nov. 22: Food Photography Workshop

Food writers know that a good photo is a critical piece of their posts. If you’re responsible for your own photography, check out this three-hour workshop for tips on lighting, props, composition, and styling. It’s a live class, so instructors will be available for questions as well.
