Farm Bureau: Survey Shows Thanksgiving Dinner Cost Up 14%

Farm Bureau’s 36th annual survey indicates the average cost of this year’s classic Thanksgiving feast for 10 is $53.31, or less than $6.00 per person. This is a $6.41 or 14% increase from last year’s average of $46.90.

The centerpiece on most Thanksgiving tables – the turkey – costs more than last year, at $23.99 for a 16-pound bird. That’s roughly $1.50 per pound, up 24% from last year, but there are several mitigating factors.

A Record Percentage of Americans to Host Thanksgiving Dinner This Year, Spending $392 on Average

Thanksgiving 2020 is a blur for many families who decided to scale things back or cancel the holiday altogether because of the coronavirus pandemic. More than 53 million Americans are expected to travel this Thanksgiving, bringing fall travel back to pre-pandemic levels. During the height of the 2020 pandemic, most Americans opted for smaller holiday gatherings, so it’s no surprise that Americans are eager to get together and spend time with family and friends.

National Safety Council Calls on All Drivers to Practice Safe, Responsible Driving Over Thanksgiving

The National Safety Council (NSC) is calling on everyone planning to travel to celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones to practice safe, responsible driving. Roadways are becoming more dangerous; NSC estimates more than 21,400 people may have died on the roads through the first six months of 2021, a 16% increase from the previous year. Over this year’s Thanksgiving holiday period — which begins Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. and concludes Sunday, Nov. 28, at 11:59 p.m. — estimates show more than 500 people may die on U.S. roads. This is the highest projection of roadway deaths during the Thanksgiving holiday since 2007.

Disney Cruise Line Sets Sail on Streets of New York City with Enchanting Cruise Ship Float in Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

On Nov. 25, Disney Cruise Line’s brand-new cruise ship float will embark on its maiden voyage in New York City as part of the 95th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The imaginatively designed “ship” has been christened “Magic Meets the Sea” and is inspired by the fantastical style of the Disney Wish, which sets sail in summer 2022.

EF Education First released today (Nov. 16) the 2021 edition of its EF English Proficiency Index (EF EPI), analyzing data from 2 million non-native English speakers in 112 countries and regions. As worldwide levels of English improve, Scandinavia no longer dominates the top positions of this global ranking. The Netherlands held on to its number 1 spot by a comfortable margin.
