Today (March 30), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized a second booster dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for older people and certain immunocompromised individuals. The FDA previously authorized a single booster dose for certain immunocompromised individuals following the completion of a three-dose primary vaccination series. This action will now make a second booster dose of these vaccines available to other populations at higher risk for severe disease, hospitalization and death. Emerging evidence suggests that a second booster dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine improves protection against severe COVID-19 and is not associated with new safety concerns.

Nielsen Enters into Agreement to be Acquired by Evergreen- and Brookfield-Led Consortium for $16 Billion

Nielsen Holdings plc today (March 30) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by a private equity consortium led by Evergreen Coast Capital Corp., an affiliate of Elliott Investment Management L.P., and Brookfield Business Partners L.P. together with institutional partners for $28 per share in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $16 billion, including the assumption of debt.

The Nielsen Board of Directors voted unanimously to support the acquisition proposal, which represents a 10% premium over the Consortium’s previous proposal and a 60% premium over Nielsen’s unaffected stock price as of March 11, 2022, the last trading day before market speculation regarding a potential transaction. The Board reached this determination following a comprehensive review of the proposal, with the assistance of its independent financial and legal advisors.

At his war room in Kyiv, Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke to editors from The Economist in an exclusive interview about his country’s battle and the struggle of light over dark. The Economist, one of the world’s most trusted sources of global news and analysis, spoke at length to Mr. Zelensky in “the fortress” on March 25 about the current state of war with Russia and what winning looks like for Ukraine.

When asked if Vladimir Putin believes Ukraine has a right to exist, Mr. Zelensky said, “I don’t think he visualises in his own mind the same Ukraine we see. He sees Ukraine as a part of his world, his worldview, but that doesn’t correspond with what’s happened over the last 30 years.“

Dictionary.com Announces New Words Related to Homelessness, Accessibility, Disability, Culture, the Ongoing Pandemic, Climate and the Environment, and Social Sciences

Notably, their team of lexicographers updated over 2,400 entries across the dictionary, including 235 new entries, 72 new definitions in existing entries, and 1,024 revised definitions.

New Survey Finds Two-Thirds of Young Women 18-30 Feel Financially Insecure

Sixty-one percent of young women say they are not doing well in the economy right now, with nearly one in three (29%) saying they are not doing well at all. They are facing financial anxiety, stress about finding well-paying jobs, and concern about balancing their careers and personal life in the future.

The survey, “The impact of the pandemic on 18-30 year old women in U.S.,” and focus groups results are from the most demographically diverse cohort and were gathered by Lake Research Partners, commissioned by Wellesley College, and funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. These findings and more will be shared at an upcoming virtual summit on April 1 and 2.
