Blog Profiles: Decadent Food Blogs

decadent food blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, PR Newswire selects an industry or subject and a handful of sites that do a good job promoting, contributing, and blogging about it. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tell PR Newswire audience relations manager Christine Cube why on PR Newswire for Bloggers.

Come on. You knew this one was coming.

Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and already I’m mentally prepping our menu. I still need a few vegetable sides, and I’m positive the following food blogs will give me more than enough options.

Here we go.

Smitten Kitchen actually came into my life because a good friend, who’s a devotee of the cookbook.

The Smitten Kitchen “writer, cook, photographer and occasional dishwasher” is Deb Perelman, fearlessly cooking from her tiny kitchen in New York City.

This blog literally may be the complete package: Great, down-to-earth writing, magnificent photography, and delicious food.

Take, for example, Perelman’s Kale and Caramelized Onion Stuffing.

“I have very strong feelings about stuffing, which, for once, I can express succinctly: GIMME,” she writes. “Well, that and a little bit of righteous indignation. Why do we limit our consumption of it to Thanksgiving?”

I personally plan to have Roasted Tomatoes and Cipollini on my Thanksgiving table. And either Swiss Chard and Sweet Potato Gratin or Squash Toasts with Ricotta and Cider Vinegar. (Incidentally, I pulled both from Smitten Kitchen’s Thanksgiving section.)

Gluten-Free Girl and The Chef – Playing With Our Food is the blog of Shauna James Ahern.

The site features a guide to gluten-free baking, gluten-free recipes, and information on Ahern’s books.

Ahern emphasizes that gluten-free living isn’t deprivation.

“We live in food,” she says, of life with chef husband, Danny. “Food, to us, is sensuality and texture, kindness and laughter, being alive and in love. Roasted potatoes with sea salt. Cinnamon-walnut scones. Crispy pork belly. Mixed green salads with champagne vinaigrette. Pizza with prosciutto, chanterelle mushrooms, and goat cheese. Fig cookies. Scrambled eggs with truffle salt. Sauted black kale. Shaved fennel with lemon. One crisp apple.”

And did I mention the food? Some of my favorite recipes include Chanterelles with Thyme and Grilled Lamb with Pomegranate and Balsamic.

Luci’s Morsels combines two of my favorite things: fashion and food.

Luci Petlack is a “California girl with her PhD.”

“I love jeans, iced coffee, homemade food, and smart humor,” Petlack says. “Luci’s Morsels is about fashion, food, and frivolity – all from an approachable and fun perspective.”

Seriously, what’s not to love here? It’s magical when you can go from Soft Pretzels with IPA Beer Cheese Dip to a Braided Bun Tutorial.

Other favorites: Sweet Italian Sausage + Greens Soup and Lime + Cilantro Quinoa-Stuffed Sweet Potatoes.

The Brown-Eyed Baker is a place where it’s “perfectly acceptable to eat dessert first!”

This is my kind of site. Food blogger and chocolate, carb and snack addict Michelle seriously knows how to draw people in with her food.

She had me at Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding Breakfast Casserole. (I think that will officially make it to my Thanksgiving table. Michelle also has more Thanksgiving recipes.)

I also plan to make sometime soon Chipotle Chicken and Corn Chowder, Slow Cooker Macaroni and Cheese, and Beef Enchiladas.

I have to give an honorable mention to NPR’s The Salt. This is not your typical food blog.

I like The Salt because it features posts about eating and health, foodie-type pieces, and food for thought. Some examples of interesting posts include Do We Waste a Lot of Pumpkins We Could be Eating? and Food Podcasts 1.0: These Radio Pioneers Had It Down 90 Years Ago.
