It’s back-to-school time! Not that I need to announce it.

Sales have been going on for weeks and social media feeds are filling up with happy (or sad) parents sending their kids off for the first day. I’m devastated every year at the start of school. Summer can’t be over, yet!

This week’s bloggers are all educators that strive to share the wonders of the world with their children — in and out of the classroom.

The Maker Mom is dedicated to helping parents “raise STEM-loving, maker-friendly kids.” Kim Moldofsky is a former Science Olympiad and VEX Robotics coach. She even mentored a Technovation Challenge team. This blogger knows how to make science, technology, engineering, and math fun.

I’m a fan of her STEM Girl Friday series, introducing the women of STEM to the world. She also includes many STEM projects with easy-to-follow directions.

Raising Lifelong Learners is written by Colleen, who is a gifted specialist, educational consultant, authorspeaker, and homeschool mom of gifted kids.

Colleen’s post, The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling Gifted-Children, covers the whys and hows for choosing home school over a traditional school. It stinks to be gifted in school, she says, and this blog explores life as a homeschooling mom of gifted children.

Brian Crosby, educator and author of Learning is Messy, is known for his work with “at-risk” kids. He uses technology, field trips, art, activities and problem solving to connect with his students.

His blog shares some of his lessons, as well as his student’s activities. In eighth grade, I built a bridge out of toothpicks that held seven bricks without breaking. He challenged fifth graders to build cantilever using washers and stir sticks. Their projects are much cooler.

Rion Nakaya, with the help of her children, searches the web for smart videos about art, science, math, technology — and everything else curious minds want to know — for The Kid Should See This.

There are too many fascinating things to see on this blog; picking a favorite is hard. So, I’m going with her kids’ suggestion of My Mum is an Airplane and Upside Down & Inside Out – OK Go in zero-g.

From finding the right school to packing the right lunch, it’s a busy time of year for parents. But what about the kids?
