The world can get a bit overwhelming — especially with social media making it easy to read just about every thought of every person you know.

I’m on a social media fast right now. This is hard for a blogger.

I started searching for a better understanding of those around me, but I ended up getting a better idea of who I am.

This week, I’m featuring self-help blogs dedicated to helping anyone live a more purposeful life.

“Life is a wonderful opportunity,” proclaims Good Life Zen founder Mary Jaksch. In addition to being an author, Jaksch is an authorized Zen master (Diamond Sangha lineage) and psychotherapist.

Good Life Zen offers practical ways to achieve zen and a happier life.

Lately, I’ve been craving silence. Apparently, there’s something to being quiet. Tyler, a GLZ contributor, breaks down the effects of silence. I also recommend 21 Ways to Stay Positive in a Relentlessly Negative World.

The Emotion Machine is a collection of self-improvement and mental health topics and articles aimed at helping anyone live a better life.

Are you normal? I know I’m not. In Why No One is Normal, Steven Handel shares three principles that show how we can all look at others as individuals, “rather than compare and measure people against some fictional average that never truly captures who we really are.”

I also recommend Lessons Standup Comedians Can Teach You About Public Speaking.

Tiny Buddha is run by Lori Deschene. She does not think of her blog as her own or about her. It’s about all of us, she says.

The site features tips and authentic stories from readers of all ages, from all over the globe. They share wisdom and stories about gaining peace and happiness.

As a worrier, I found things to try when nothing else works very helpful. 9 Confidence Myths That Only Quiet People Will Truly Understand is a great read, especially if you’re looking to build your confidence level.

Finding joy in the world today is not difficult. But if you have a hard time, I suggest Self Help Daily.

Joi, who writes this blog, is “devoted to helping you create the reality of your dreams. Nothing less.”

Joi stresses the need to live in the present and to find humor, even in the worst situations. Doing both can help turn a bad day around.
