It was Thanksgiving that gave me the idea to look at photography blogs.

They say you first eat with your eyes anyway.

So I wanted to give props to the folks who take art and photography beyond the senses.

The Sartorialist began with the idea of “creating a two-way dialogue about the world of fashion and its relationship to daily life.”

The conversation is with founder and photographer Scott Schuman, whose work has been featured in GQ, Vogue Italia, Vogue Paris, and Interview. For GQ, Schuman shot and edited his own page for more than three years. Schuman also has appeared in national ad campaigns for The Gap and Verizon.

So his blog covers the following categories: Men, women, fashion shows, book features, style profiles, and vintage photos.

Some of my favorites include On the Street … Paisley & Plaid, Paris, On the Street … Astor Place, New York, and Lunch with Mr. Modenese, Milan.

Fstoppers features photography news and a community for creative professionals.

This site offers some fascinating technical posts about how to shoot amazing work. Example: How to Shoot a Milky Way Time-Lapse.

Other interesting posts I found on Fstoppers include Photographers: The Guardians of History?, Visiting Sir Elton John’s Dazzling Modernist Photography Collection, and Does This New Evidence Suggest The Copycat Travel Photographer Story That Went Viral is a Hoax?

Joe McNally Photography is the portfolio site of internationally-acclaimed photographer, McNally.

His career spans 35-plus years in 60 countries; McNally was the last staff photographer in the history of Life magazine, according to the site.

It’s impossible to look around at McNally’s images without feeling breathless. Incidentally, McNally’s site is different from his blog (which also is spectacular).

McNally’s prints are in numerous collections, most significantly the National Portrait Gallery of the United States and National September 11 Memorial & Museum, says the site.

Some of my favorite images (and there really are so many) include this ballerina, these swimmers, a beautiful lady in red, and a sculptor.

Photofocus features education and inspiration for visual storytellers.

It’s a deep site, covering a lot of territory, including photo gear and lighting, video shooting and cinematography, education, news, podcasts, and software information.

I appreciate photography lessons like One Light Setup for Car Interiors, Shoot What it Feels Like, and “Bad Weather Makes Good Photographs” and Better Stories.
