Blog Profiles: Summer Camp Blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. School’s out, so we’re dedicating this week’s list to summer camp blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.

Now that school is concluding, many kids are prepping for the summer.

For a lot of families, this includes camp.

I never grew up with camp, but now that I’ve got a little one, I’m thinking more and more about fun options for him to engage with other children and be a part of something bigger than himself.

So, I dove into summer camp blogs. Here’s what I found.

1. Let’s Talk Camp Blog

Active Network, Camps, (formerly CampRegister), powers up more than 2,500 camps and programs with camp management software and online camp registration software.

It also features a blog called Let’s Talk Camp.

Some posts that I found interesting here include Packing for Summer Camp: Don’t Let Campers Forget These Essential Items, How to Identify the Warning Signs of Bullying, and Is Your Camp Summer-Ready? Get the Checklist!

2. Go Camp Pro

Go Camp Pro allows folks to “stay in the loop and become part of our camp pro family. We’re dedicated to re-defining what continuing education in summer camping means, and would love you to be part of a community that will change camping forever.”

The site is managed by Travis Allison, podcaster and marketing consultant with CampHacker. According to its Facebook page, CampHacker exists to “create great camp communities so that camps are inspired to change the world.”

Go Camp Pro posts that caught my eye include The 7 Life Skills You Learn at Camp – An Adult’s Perspective and Pre-Summer Camp Staff Engagement.

3. Sleepaway Camp Blog

Sleepaway Camp Blog features tips on trips and camps, providing expertise on overnight camps and trips for children age 7 through 18+.

I liked so much on this site. If you’re looking for camp fairs, blog articles, video, and testimonials – it’s got a little bit of everything.

4. Camp Connection

The American Camp Association aims to enrich “lives through the camp experience.”

It features a blog called Camp Connection.

But this is a big site. It features information for staff and professionals (namely, a resource library as well as info about events, professional development, accreditation, and standards) and resources for campers and families. (Looking for a camp? No problem. Planning for one? Cool.)

Some good posts to check out here include Planetary Events for Camp Programs, Why Camp Culture is Important to Staff Training, and Emotional Readiness for Camp.
