Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. I’ve spent the last month avidly following England’s journey through the World Cup (I only cried like 15 times), and with Wayne Rooney now playing within driving distance from where I live, I felt compelled to do football blogs this month.
I used to watch old Chelsea games when I was traveling a lot between D.C. and London. Full disclaimer: I now only care about football once every 3 years and 11 months.
Anyways, here’s a list of blogs that you may want to check out.
1. CaughtOffSide
CaughtOffSide is an independently run gossip blog that updates every 40 minutes. I like it because the layout is easier to look at than a lot of football sites (and I don’t necessarily feel like I’m reading straight from a tabloid like other sites make me feel). Also, it has easier-to-digest short reads that I tend to enjoy.

2. Futbolita
I gravitated toward this blog because it advertises itself as “The Female Voice of Football.” The blog covers football played in Europe and South America. The site is run by sports journalist Ash Hashim, and the team is totally composed of female journalists who specialize in football, and seems to do more in-depth pieces on the presence of football (and not just the trade gossip and news behind it).

3. The Stateside of Soccer
The United States were not in the World Cup this year, but that didn’t stop America from being in the World Cup (shout out to you and your “controversial calls,” National Hero American Referee Mark Geiger).
This blog covers advertises itself as every American soccer fan’s one stop-shop for information. It covers stateside leagues, so I thought I had to include it, as American soccer leagues can sometimes go ignored.

4. Outside of the Boot
This blog began in 2012 and prides itself in bringing innovation and “outside-of-the-box” thinking to the football obsessed.
I particularly liked the visual tactical analysis of matches because I tend to be more on the visual side, and it helps me understand a bit better of the thought process that goes into setting up to score a goal (as a person who has never been athletic enough to play football).
