Blog Profiles: Camping Blogs, Part 1

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. We’re in an outdoorsy mood, so this week’s list features a few of our favorite camping blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.

Camping Blogs We Love - mediablog.prnewswire.com

Two years ago, I hiked about 10 miles with a group of friends to Havasu Falls in the Grand Canyon. We camped for a few nights and explored the stunning scenery before making the long trek out (see photo below for proof).

Havasu Falls

As the weather gets warmer, I find myself ready to plan my next camping trip. I’m not looking for a trip as prep-intensive as Havasu, but any time spent outdoors would be welcome.

I decided to check out camping blogs for some inspiration.

I found so many good options that I’ve decided to make this a two-part Blog Profiles. The rest of my favorite camping blogs will be posted on June 10, so stay tuned.

1. Camping for Women

“Camping for Women is a resource created by women, and for women, which proves girls have just as much fun in the woods as boys,” the homepage explains.

Camping of course is not a gendered activity and these posts can appeal to any reader, but this is a great resource and community for women who love camping and want tips, trends and articles catered to their unique outdoor experiences.

The Resources section is especially helpful. Readers can find checklists, a knot-tying infographic and more helpful posts.

I recommend reading How To Organize A Camping Bachelorette Party, Understanding the “Open Road of Life”, and Prevent baby overheating when camping.

2. Beyond the Tent

Beyond the Tent is managed by Ryan Cunningham, who is on a mission to “get families, singles, anyone and everyone outdoors and enjoying the world of camping.”

The blog has a great selection of posts with family-friendly camping tips, advice and recipes. If you’re just getting started, the blog has useful resources like a camping checklist and first aid basics.

Beyond the Tent also has in-depth gear guides for tents, sleeping bags, portable power and more.

I loved these posts: 21+ of the Best Hikes Near Seattle, Backpacking with Dogs: Your Ultimate How-To Guide, and 25 Make Ahead Camping Meals to Feed a Whole Family.

3. Fresh Off The Grid

If you’re like me, you can only stand so many meals of oatmeal, trail mix or hot dogs while camping.

Bloggers Megan McDuffie and Michael van Vliet were in the same boat and started this blog in 2015 to blend their love of cooking with the outdoors.

In addition to the easy-to-execute recipes, Fresh Off The Grid also posts camping guides for some spectacular locations across the U.S. and Canada.

Here are a few great posts and recipes: How to Make Campfire Nachos, 4 Hikes to Beat the Crowds in Zion National Park, and Huevos Rancheros Verdes.
