Blog Profiles: Fatherhood Blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. Since Father’s Day is coming up, we’re dedicating this week’s roundup to fatherhood blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.

We all have heard (and read) about mommy blogs and the adventures in parenting from a mother’s perspective. But what about fatherhood and its challenges, joys, and mishaps?

Here are four outstanding fatherhood blogs that will give you a great insight on parenting from a male point of view.

Happy Father’s Day!

1. How to be a Dad

If you are looking for inspiration on fatherhood through a lens of humor and fun, then this is the blog to read. Fathers Charlie and Andy get a kick out of fatherhood and take a “the only way to handle this is to laugh about it” perspective to parenting.

Their bio says it best: “If you were looking for a website telling you how to be a dad … You didn’t find it. We aren’t experts in ‘dadology.’ We aren’t even sure such a thing exists. We’re just here to tell you that being a parent sometimes means experiencing things without an authority, letting love and humor get you through. For those other times, we recommend a sturdy helmet.”

I loved reading about the Know-it-all-Parenting Method and this adorable post about bugs titled Cute-to-Nope Bug Chart.

2. Mr. Dad

The site’s creator, Armin Brott, is a bestselling author of several books dedicated to fatherhood and hosts “Positive Parenting,” a weekly radio program that airs in San Francisco.

Brott’s blog serves as a parenting resource and offers advice to expecting fathers, first-year parents, single dads, military families, and grandparents. Many posts are formatted in a Q&A style for easy digestion.

Two articles I enjoyed reading are Boys and Girls: Nature vs Nurture? and Bonding with Tweens.

3. Dad or Alive

This blog focuses on the confessions of stay-at-home dad Adrian Kulp, who manages to blend his personal voice and honest point of view with tips on parenting and fatherhood.

Kulp’s blog also features interviews with other parents and offers advice on travel, lifestyle, and food.

Some of the articles I enjoyed reading were Age is Relative. It’s the Heat and Mind that Count and Does Cleaning Making Your Kid a Better Person?

4. Designer Daddy

Designer Daddy is written, created, and maintained by graphic designer and illustrator Brent Almond and follows the adventures of his life with his husband and five-year-old son JJ.

The blog focuses on getting creative with fatherhood and also covers important life topics like teaching your kids about gender equality.

Two articles I enjoyed reading were How Important is Support for People with Obesity and Gillette Tackles Toxic Masculinity, Brings Out the Worst a Man Can Get.
