Blog Profiles: Northeastern Blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. In our last regional blog roundup, we’re recognizing a few of our favorite Northeastern blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.

If you haven’t been following along – and in that case, welcome! – I’ve taken the opportunity in my last few “Blog Profiles” posts to recognize my favorite regional blogs in the West, Midwest, and South.

Before we begin a new year, let’s visit the final region: the Northeast.

1. Fresh New England

For the foodies, Fresh New England is written for “everyone who loves food, farms, gardening, and New England.”

The team of writers covers local restaurants, farmers, recipes, and more.

But before or after that delicious meal, you need something to do – and this blog has you covered there as well. A handy event calendar, trip guides, and activity posts have plenty of unique ideas for how to spend your time in New England.

Unfortunately, the blog site is no longer live but you can still follow @freshnewengland on Twitter and @myfreshnewengland on Instagram.

2. Tracy Kaler’s New York Life

With so much to do and see in the Big Apple, I had to include a blog dedicated solely to the city. Tracy Kaler moved to NYC in 2007 and has been writing about it ever since.

Not only does Kaler have great travel tips for visitors, but she also writes about what it’s like to actually live in the city – helpful for anyone who recently moved to town or is considering it.

How I Accidentally Fell in Love with New York; 4 Things New Yorkers Complain About and Have a Right to; and 6 of the Best Happy Hours in NYC are good reads.

3. The Coastal Confidence

“The Coastal Confidence embraces all the whimsical charms and traditions of a New England lifestyle and shares them in hopes to aspire, inspire and relate to all readers.”

Blogger Aubrey Yandow didn’t quite realize how much she loved New England until she left Connecticut to move to California. Now living back in her home state, Yandow’s goal is to share that love with others through blog posts covering regional travel tips, home décor ideas, and other lifestyle topics.

Check out these posts: A New Englander’s Guide To Gifting Antiques; How To Create A Picturesque Holiday Cheese Board; and What We Learned After One Year In Our New England Fixer-Upper.

4. Conserving the Nature of the Northeast

This blog is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service: “We conserve nature in the northeast U.S. for the benefit of wildlife and the American people. Love your natural and wild places!”

Topics include coastal conservation, hunting and conservation, and trending environmental news for the region.

I recommend reading Saltmarsh sparrows need help surviving rising tides; Summer programs grow connection with nature for Tribal youth; and 7 ways Hurricane Sandy started a tidal wave of resilience.

P.S. Ever wonder how we come up with ideas for our blog profiles? Our handy list of industries and subjects on PR Newswire for Journalists stays top of mind. If you’re a blogger or journalist looking for regional news, let us know. We can customize a newsfeed for you.

Rocky Parker works in Audience Relations at PR Newswire. Check out her previous posts for Beyond Bylines and connect on LinkedIn. When she’s not working, Rocky typically can be found cooking, binge watching a new show, or playing with her puppy, Hudson.
