Dessert Blogs We Love - mediablog.prnewswire.com

Anyone else stress-eating desserts recently or is it just me?

Well, the good news is it’s the perfect time of year for indulging in sweet treats. November 4 was National Candy Day, November 26 is National Cake Day (not to mention Thanksgiving of course, which is full of desserts), and December 4 is National Cookie Day.

These blogs will help satisfy your sweet tooth.

Something Swanky

I was drawn to this blog because creator Ashton Swank creates recipes that are delicious yet doable by keeping real life in mind. I appreciate her fluff-free posts that are focused on the recipe itself and include helpful tips to get it right.

The site is organized into categories like brownies, cakes, and cookies, but you can also search by ingredient (apples, chocolate, peanut butter, etc.) and occasion (birthdays, Halloween, and Christmas, for example), which I love.

My eyes were drawn to the recipe for this pumpkin cinnamon roll cake, very fitting for fall. The blog also posts regular listicles that include several related recipes – if you know you want to make brownies but aren’t sure which kind, for example. I bought a Bundt pan recently so will be sure to browse the list of “60 Pound Cake & Bundt Cake Recipes” for one (or a few) to test out.

Bakerita

Blogger Rachel Conners started Bakerita in 2010 when she was just 16. It’s since grown to include more than 700 recipes and a cookbook of the same name.

This blog is unique because the majority of recipes are gluten-free, vegan, and refined-sugar-free. So if you have dietary restrictions but still want a dessert fix, this is a great site to check out. Although most of the recipes are desserts, Rachel throws in the occasional savory dish as well.

Rachel’s recipe for gluten-free vegan apple cinnamon scones seems surprisingly easy and very fitting for the season. And crème brulee is one of my favorite desserts (tied with cheesecake) and I’m a sucker for no-bake recipes, so her vegan creme brulee ticks all my boxes.

Sprinkle Bakes

Blogger Heather Baird is a self-taught baker and started this blog in 2009. Simply put, she just loves desserts. She also has experience working with artists and that love of art comes through in her recipes and colorful photography.

While Heather sprinkles in (see what I did there) some savory recipes, the bulk of posts on the site are dedicated to sweet treats.

Just reading the name, I thought the recipe for poached pear vol au vents would be way outside my skill set, but Heather breaks it down into three easy-to-follow sections that made me change my mind. And her post for the giant sticky bun is a big upgrade from the standard cinnamon rolls I’d make in the morning and it immediately grabbed my attention.

Hummingbird High

This blog began as a record of blogger Michelle’s adventures as she baked her way through her favorite cookbook, The Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook, and learned how to adapt the recipes to work at high-altitude (she previously lived in Denver). Living in a high-altitude city myself, I found this angle particularly interesting.

Since starting the blog, she’s learned a lot about the chemistry of baking and how ingredients work together to get consistent results. Michelle’s recipes are incredibly detailed so they’re suitable for bakers of any level.

I’m not a huge fan of frosting as I think it can usually be too sweet, so I was intrigued by her recipe for an orange olive oil cake that’s garnished with confectioner’s sugar and seems to be a very simple cake to make. And after watching (and re-watching) every season of The Great British Baking Show, I’m hesitant about floral flavors, but these lavender earl grey cookies look too good to not try.
