6 Freelancing Blogs to Start Following

Are you considering a move to freelancing in the new year? If so, you wouldn’t be alone. The number of people freelancing in the U.S. has been increasing since 2014 and reached 59 million in 2020, according to Statista.

But going solo can be daunting. From finding clients to sorting out finances and invoicing and staying organized and on task, there’s a lot that goes into being an independent worker.

These freelancing blogs are full of tips and advice to help you get on the path to a successful freelance career.

1. Make a Living Writing

While many freelance blogs focus on the general realm of freelancing, which includes a wide variety of skills, I was drawn to this one because it focuses specifically on writing. Founded in 2008 by successful freelancer Carol Tice, the site now has more than 1,000 posts to help readers achieve their freelance writing goals.

Check out the library of posts to get advice on booking clients, increasing productivity, using social media, avoiding scams, and more. Subscribers will also get access to posts not available on the public site.

And if you’re looking to join a community of fellow writers, Tice also created the Freelance Writers Den. The highly-engaged membership community opens to the public twice a year, so get on the waitlist asap.

The Freelancers Union supports a membership of more than 500,000 independent workers. In addition to providing member benefits like insurance and advocacy, the organization also runs an in-depth blog that’s full of helpful resources for freelancers.

The site offers a number of posts about navigating finances as a freelancer, whether it’s taxes, invoices, or setting rates. Blog posts offer a variety of tips and advice to help independent workers — from graphic designers to contractors and writers — get the most out of this career path.

The Solopreneur Society was created by Dre Beltrami, a “branding junkie” who wants to help customers (or “kindreds”) create a brand that’s going to resonate with the target audience and lead to a successful business. Her writing style is full of humor that makes her posts seriously fun to read.
